Pros and Cons of SEO Competitions

Every year a lot of SEO competitions take place around the world. Basically the company that administers them comes up with a word that has not existed until that point. This means two things - that there are 0 results in the search engines (Google) and that the playing field is even.

Usually after six months from the start of the competition on a predetermined date and time a representative of the administering company looks up the made up word in Google and the first website wins - simple as that. Most of the time there is a big cash prize but it is almost always secondary to the fame the winner gets.

Sometimes the SEO competitions are country specific. In these cases the word is in the local language. For instance right now a seo competition is going on in Bulgaria. The word is which is (laptops) backwards and on March 31st whoever comes first upon looking up the word in Google.bg will be the winner.

Sometimes when the word is in English it means that almost the whole world takes place in the competition. To increase their chances of winning people compete in groups and the winners divide the prize among them.

As I mentioned before even though the cash prize is big people do it mostly because of the fame that comes with it. However both things are inter related. The members of the winning team are contacted by companies that need that type of service.

Most of the people feel that they can’t win such a competitive contest and don’t even participate. Opposite to them I think that no matter how good they are in the art of SEO everyone needs to participate. There are so many tricks that can be leanrned in such a competition for a relatively short amount of time.

I can give myself as example. I signed up for the third Bulgarian SEO competition. It started about months and a half ago and I have learnt so many things that under normal circumstances it would have taken me months to learn. I am not sure that I will win but even if I don’t I would never regret I decided to participate.

If you wish to participate in SEO competitions but don’t feel like you don’t have the knowledge - don’t despair. Read my ipotpal blog. This is the website I use in the third annual ipotpal competition in Bulgaria
