The Social Media Network Facebook

In its early days providing information on the Internet was left to website designers and coders who knew how to create websites. There were only few possibilities for users without that knowledge to create websites. Another aspect of that time was the missing interaction on websites which mainly consisted of forums and chat rooms. Information usually was provided by one person without possibilities to interact with that information.

Then entered modern computers and fast internet connections. Social Networking sites arose which allowed users to directly comment to each other, send pictures, videos and messages. This eliminated the need for each user to learn massive amounts of coding simply to create a basic webpage. Despite the variety of modern social networking sites offered, very few have managed to capture such a broad audience as Facebook.

Every user can make an account at Facebook which can then be found by other Facebook users. It is possible to receive friend requests and send them out as well. You are then actively taking part in the virtual life of your friends by receiving status updates, pictures, links and other information that they post or receive. This makes it easy to keep up with the life of friends that you do not visit or meet every day.

Security and privacy options have been added to Facebook over time to provide users with better security and privacy on the website. It is for instance possible to hide an account so that it cannot be found by other Facebook users. The remaining functionality on the other hand would still be accessible including the ability to search for and add friends to that account.

Many users like Facebook as it makes it more than easy to post messages and to upload videos and photos to the web service. Others enjoy the various applications and games that are provided by Facebook and third party developers. These often make use of social networking features as well. It is for example possible to invite friends to play games, share high-scores or to send them messages if you beat their highscore. Games range from Tetris over Scrable to Mafia Wars.

Quizzes are another popular pastime at Facebook. Many quizzes have been generated by Facebook users with the options to create quizzes open to all Facebook users. Quizzes range from silly ones to mature themes. The number of them is growing by the minute so there is always something to find and answer. Friends can be invited to take a quiz that you have taken in the past. Results can even be compared in the end.

Facebook originally targeted college students to provide them a way to keep in contact with mates and fellow students who moved to another college or finished they study. Interest from other groups picked up fairly soon and today’s Facebook combines a mixture of every group of the general population from teenagers to grandparents and everything in between. It is still used by many college students to keep up to date with their families.

Overall, Facebook allows you to safely keep in contact with friends, relatives, children, and anyone that you would wish to talk to. You can share pictures with your friends, play games against them, or do a vast variety of other fun activities. It’s what all social networks should be - easy to use, secure, and best of all, fun!
